West McLaren Mercedes and IBM conclude technology agreement

Formula One team West McLaren Mercedes and IBM Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) have announced an agreement for computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology using CATIA Solutions. Under terms of the contract, CATIA Solutions will be the exclusive CAD/CAM software for West McLaren Mercedes. Throughout the agreement period, CATIA Solutions will be optimised for use at West McLaren Mercedes.
The West McLaren Mercedes Formula One team is one of the most successful in the world, winner of eight Constructors' World Championships, most recently in 1998. Its drivers have racked up an impressive number of victories, winning 11 Drivers' World Championships, including Mika Hakkinen's back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999.
West McLaren Mercedes is racing its first CATIA-designed Formula One vehicle this season. The team selected CATIA's integrated system because it provides a wide range of applications to meet current and future needs of West McLaren Mercedes, including software for designing the car's transmission, suspension, chassis and aerodynamic surfaces. In addition, CATIA's ease-of-use enables West McLaren Mercedes engineers to design and make changes quickly, a key to competitiveness in Formula One racing.
