Galilee Engineering Design Services has obtained exclusive distributorship of eCADlite, a DGN and DWG editor, viewer and redline software package introduced recently at AEC Systems Exhibition in the UK.

"The initial response has been incredible - it means that MicroStation and AutoCAD users now have an alternative method to introduce new seats without the cost overhead of purchasing the main packages," says Samuel McCammond, MD of Galilee. "It will open DGN and DWG directly without translation and will allow users to actually draw in 2D as well as view and redline. The software also incorporates the import of MicroStation fonts and cells, so existing drawing formats will not require modification due to incompatibility with the incorporated fonts supplied. The most common problems of the diameter, degree symbols and dimension translation are therefore eliminated."

The UK developers, Graphstore, chose Galilee due to the company's knowledge of the local CAD market and its current involvement with the supply of interactive CAD training CDs for MicroStation and AutoCAD. Galilee is also responsible for the sale of the raster to vector program VECTORY to some of the largest CAD companies in South Africa.

"We congratulate David Blain, ex-UK Bentley Systems MD, now MD of Graphstore, for his vision in developing the software. There has been an urgent requirement for such a 'clone' for many years," says McCrammond. "Many software manufacturers have neglected the small user in favour of the large corporations, their current Internet involvement alienating the majority of smaller users. This package, which will be upgraded regularly, will ensure that users are not forced to pay for software packages that they do not require.

A full evaluation package is available on CD and will run for approximately one month.
