Software calculates the waterhammer/surge transients in piping systems

AFT Fathom/Impulse Impulse is used for calculating waterhammer/surge transients in piping systems, based on a steady state network starting point which is calculated by Fathom. The software uses the method of characteristics to solve the mass and momentum equations. This is useful for simulating valve closures/openings, pump startups and shutdowns, and relief valve cracking, etc.
Impulse incorporates a model for vapour cavitation and liquid column separation so the effect of pressure surges due to vapour cavity collapse can be accurately modelled. A description and demo download can be found www.aft.com/impulse.htm
