CAD software with a unique user interface allows sharing of data with other CAD applications

1 June 2000

SolidWorks 2000 software has been certified for the STEP AP 203 standard by the US Product Data Association (US PRO). This is of significance, as STEP is an international file format standard that enables users to share data between CAD applications, specifically solids and assembly information. The STEP certification demonstrates Solid-Works continued commitment to enabling its users to share data with customers and suppliers who may be using other CAD systems.
SolidWorks has also designed a unique user interface enabling the user to export data such as part names, part numbers, release dates, revision numbers and other pertinent information. This allows users to exchange key, nongeometric data that may not be carried over from similar CAD software products available on the market today.
"We are pleased to welcome SolidWorks to the growing list of STEP Certified software products," said Chuck Stark, Program Director for US PRO. "The certification program is designed to help users identify software applications that conform to international data exchange standards. By completing the certification process, SolidWorks demonstrates its commitment to providing an ISO compliant format for data exchange."
"Since the company's inception, SolidWorks has been committed to making the mechanical design process as easy as possible," noted Dave Corcoran, Vice President of Research and Development for SolidWorks. "Incorporating data translation capabilities, collaboration tools, and exchange technology into CAD software are critical elements to facilitating the design process."
SolidWorks 2000 software was certified for compliance to ISO 10303-203:1994 conformance class 6a running on a Pentium 3 Dell Computer under the Windows NT 4.0 operating system.
