Highlighting its position in the mechanical design market and its new solution-driven strategy, Autodesk, a leading supplier of PC-based design solutions, closed its largest single deal, valued at $3 million, in February.

It is supplying a mechanical solution comprising 1000 concurrent licences for Autodesk Inventor, Mechanical Desktop with PowerPack and AutoCAD Mechanical with PowerPack, to the American operation of Schneider Electrical, suppliers of electrical controls to the architectural/engineering/construction (AEC) market.

"It was a very competitive pitch in which we ousted serious competition and an existing installed based of older UNIX-based technology," says Errol Ashwell, Managing Director of Autodesk Africa. "Our US account team, working closely with one of our dealers, focused on Schneider's long-term design and business requirements. By looking beyond the company's immediate needs the account team came up with a solution-driven design strategy that will speed up Schneider's delivery and time to market, giving it a valuable competitive advantage."

Autodesk's credits this success to its experience in the AEC market, coupled with the .dwg compatibility of its design software.
