3D modelling utility makes use of e-mail for easy distribution

1 April 2001

Point Zero, an established industrial design studio focuses on product, interior, environmental and web design. This intellectual property based company uses SolidWorks as its preferred 3D modelling software.
"It is a package we find easy and powerful to use, from conceptualisation through to finished engineering for production," says Business Partner Nardo Bornman. "It significantly reduces lead times from concept to production, and Point Zero finds the realism created in PhotoWorks powerful enough to help the client visualise exactly what his end product will look like."
"SolidWorks is a fantastic problem solving tool with regards to product aesthetics, material finishes, engineering concerns, assembly, to mention only a few," Bornman elaborates. "One of the new features of the SolidWorks package that we find a necessity is e-Drawings. This is a file format by which a client can view a 3D computer model through the use of his e-mail facility. The application allows the client to rotate the product on all axis for complete understanding of the shape.
"A good example of how we put SolidWorks to the test with all the above criteria was with the design of a utility box for an automotive manufacturer. This utility box is a large commercial venture that demanded the strictest of design disciplines of the highest standards," he concludes.
SolidWorks is distributed in South Africa by Mecad Systems.
