Bentley Systems has announced that the second beta version of MicroStation V8 is available and the next phase of the programme is underway. The most remarkable capability of this beta version is MicroStation's ability to reference and edit both DGN and DWG files in native format.

Tex van Deventer, Managing Director of Bentley South Africa says, "I am gratified that comments from our MicroStation V8 beta testers have been overwhelmingly positive. The new file format of MicroStation V8, which will expand MicroStation's capabilities in many areas, has been thoroughly tested in the first beta test phase. I am proud that such a significant change in MicroStation is right on schedule."

During this phase of the beta, focus is on resolving issues reported by beta testers and getting Bentley's applications such as ProjectWise, InRoads and InterPlot running on or with MicroStation V8. MicroStation V8 takes advantage of underlying architectural changes, giving users numerous new production and project-level capabilities and is more tightly integrated with other Bentley engineering information creation applications and Bentley's Viecon engineering information management solutions.
