Autodesk has designs on road warriors

Built for Microsoft Windows CE-based handheld and tablet computing devices, Autodesk OnSite View is a standalone mobile design tool that enables design, mapping, and construction professionals to easily access and mark-up detailed design drawings and maps anywhere, anytime.
"These are industries where performance is absolutely crucial," explains Errol Ashwell, Managing Director of Autodesk Africa. "There are payment milestones to be met, the spectre of penalties for late delivery, and bonuses for early delivery. Speed of delivery is crucial."
OnSite View enables users to review and mark up AutoCAD DWG and DXF file formats in the field as well as easily synchronise data between the portable device and a desktop computer via Microsoft ActiveSync technology.
"By delivering digital design data to the point of work, the OnSite View helps users free themselves of the limitations and difficulties of working with paper drawings and maps. Benefits include increased efficiency of business operations, improved customer service, as well as better access to accurate, up-to-the-minute information," concludes Ashwell.
