TechnoCAD has released its civil engineering application software for AutoCAD 2002. AutoCAD 2002 is the latest release of the AutoCAD software from Autodesk. The TechnoCAD software provides design solutions for civil engineers, structural engineers, land and mine surveyors and town planners. All the design software runs inside AutoCAD, with seamless integration, and can handle projects based on South African 'Lo' coordinates as well as UTM (Cartesian) co-ordinates.

"Project data is increasing in size, especially with regard to extremely large digital terrain models, often exceeding one million points," notes Peter Webb, Director of TechnoCAD. "The ability to perform a triangulation on a data set of this size in a few minutes rather than hours is a requirement for today's civil engineering designer."

Amongst the other design solutions available from TechnoCAD, PipeMate is the design solution for development projects that contain civil engineering services, such as sewer and stormwater reticulation design.

PipeMate allows designers to quickly and accurately design gravity piped reticulation systems, treating the reticulation system as a whole network, rather than a 'branch-by-branch' approach. "In this way, PipeMate can save the civil engineering designer many hours during the design phase of a project," explains Webb. "In addition to automatic production of final working drawings to southern African standards, PipeMate allows the designer freedom of choice with regard to design methods. This, coupled with multi-surface sectioning on longitudinal sections, pipe clash detection and seamless links to a GIS database, make PipeMate one of the most powerful software solutions available today."

TechnoCAD also has a solution for the current problem of datum transformation for existing designs. For those designers who have hundreds or even thousands of AutoCAD drawings of previous land development projects whose coordinates relate to the Cape Datum, DatumMate software provides a solution for quick and accurate, datum transformation to WGS84. "As the software manipulates the AutoCAD drawing directly, it is extremely fast and easy to use, without any requirement for file import or export," adds Webb.
