The new range of raster technology products from Consistent Software called WiseImage V is a leap forward from the previous versions originally named: Spotlight and AutoImage.

WiseImage offers complete cross-platform functionality spread across AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT (including 2002), AutoCAD Map, and Architectural Desktop, and as a standalone version for Windows. In addition, Consistent Software sell WiseImage V for AutoCAD as a triple licence, which enables users to choose their platform of preference from the purchase of one product. A user may even install all three versions, and run them one at a time even though they have only made a single purchase.

Although the functionality is the same on all platforms, the interaction is slightly different when you use the Windows version as opposed to the AutoCAD versions. In the Windows version WiseImage is in control of its own vectors. It is not a CAD system, but offers a lot of native CAD entities. When operating in the AutoCAD environment, WiseImage abides by all the Autodesk rules. This means the user can call and manipulate all functions from the command prompt, just like native AutoCAD commands.

WiseImage allows one to select raster entities intelligently like lines, circles and arcs. These entities come with CAD-like characteristics (entity type, width, start, middle and end points, delta length, centre, bulge, radius, start and end angle, etc) just like any normal vector. The selection of raster is done using a wide array of selection, and one can even select and manipulate blocks of recognised entities in one go. Included with the pro version of all products is an OCR engine, and a tool for symbol recognition. Third party plug-ins can be used for advanced text recognition.

Companies and departments dealing with large quantities of drawings will benefit from the built-in batch generator that enables predefined series of actions to be performed on sets of drawings without operator assistance. One can select to have WiseImage do automatic alignment, filtering (despeckle, hole filling, thinning etc), crop, fit to paper size and other functions.
