EDS launches new version of Solid Edge

1 August 2002

EDS recently announced Version 12 of its Solid Edge computer-aided design (CAD) software used globally by manufacturing companies developing a wide range of industrial, commercial and consumer products.
"Since its introduction in 1996, Solid Edge has led the industry in providing modelling innovations to its customers," said Dan Staples, director of strategic planning for Solid Edge. CAD innovations delivered in Solid Edge V12 include Insight.NET web services for collaboration and communication and a new Stream/XP user interface as well as:
Insight.NET
First introduced in 2001, Solid Edge Insight technology in V12 advances the management of complex product designs in a simple manner. Solid Edge V12 extends these capabilities across the enterprise with a complete set of web-based viewing components that use Microsoft's .NET technology and new Web services for accessing the engineering bill of materials (BOM).
Stream/XP
V12 Stream Technology adds a new Stream/XP user interface, including a set of unique commands aimed at providing Solid Edge CAD users with a modern appearance. Wiring and surfacing based on industry processes.
Solid Edge V12 adds wiring harness and surfacing design to its existing arsenal of practical workflows for applications ranging from sheet metal, to weldments and tubing.
2D/3D evolution
Solid Edge combines a full set of options to migrate 2D data to 3D with tools for the 2D documentation process. V12 also features unique associative interoperability with other EDS products such as I-deas and Unigraphics NX.
