Huawei routers support optical modules

Huawei optical modules can be connected to Huawei routers, but only Huawei-certified modules are supported to ensure reliable transmission and service stability.

Certification Requirement

Huawei routers must use Huawei-certified optical modules. Non-certified modules may cause transmission issues, service instability, and are not supported by Huawei for troubleshooting or warranty purposes. Certified modules are labeled with "HUAWEI" and meet strict verification standards, including plug/unplug functionality, transmit/receive optical power, signal quality, error tolerance, and environmental compliance.

Installation Procedure

Insert the Optical Module: Gently push the module into the router's optical interface until it clicks. If it does not fit, rotate 180 degrees and try again. Fiber Preparation: Remove dust caps from both the module and fiber connectors.

Label fibers temporarily to identify transmit and receive ends. Connect Fibers: Attach one end of the fiber to the optical module and the other to the remote device, ensuring transmit and receive ends match. Labeling: Replace temporary labels with permanent ones after connection.

Interface Configuration

Some Huawei routers feature Combo interfaces (optical-electrical multiplexing). By default, the optical port may be disabled. To enable it: Enter system view and execute combo enable fiber to switch to optical mode.

Use undo combo enable fiber to revert to electrical mode. Ensure the same configuration is applied on the peer device.

Compatibility Considerations

Match the fiber type (single-mode or multi-mode) with the optical module type; do not mix them. Ensure the module speed matches the interface (e.g., do not use a 10G module on a 1G port),. Check optical power levels and module status using commands like display transceiver interface xgigabitethernet 0/0/2 verbose.

By following these guidelines, Huawei optical modules can be safely and effectively connected to Huawei routers, ensuring stable network performance and compliance with Huawei's operational standards.
