Cable tray sealing components

Cable tray sealing components include fireproof pillows, modular sealing systems, elastomeric sealants, and weatherstop units designed to protect against fire, water, gas, and environmental exposure.

Fireproof Sealing Components

Intumescent fireproof pillows are widely used to seal cable tray penetrations in walls and floors. Products like AF BAGS consist of a non-combustible fiberglass casing filled with intumescent compounds and thermal insulators. They expand under heat to create a fire-resistant barrier, certified up to EI 240 according to EN 1366-3 standards.

These pillows are easy to install, reposition, and maintain, and they accommodate cables up to 21 mm in diameter with a sealing depth of 120 mm, even in thin or unconventional structures.

Modular Sealing Systems

Roxtec modular transits provide flexible sealing for multiple cables or pipes. Their Multidiameter™ technology uses removable rubber layers to adapt to varying cable diameters, ensuring a tight seal regardless of the cable size. These systems offer certified protection against fire, water, and gas, and are suitable for walls, floors, decks, bulkheads, and enclosures.

Modular systems are particularly useful in industrial, marine, and offshore applications where multiple penetrations occur.

Elastomeric Sealants

Systems like RISE® and NOFIRNO® use expanding rubber inserts combined with elastomeric sealants to provide fire, water, and gas protection. These sealants are highly flexible, chemical-resistant, and can be applied around single or multiple cables. They are designed for easy installation and maintenance, and some systems, such as DYNATITE, increase tightness under pressure for critical applications.

Weatherstop UnitsWSP weatherstops are designed for non-fire-rated applications, providing a weathertight seal for cable trays, conduits, and bus ducts. They consist of a powder-coated or galvanized steel frame, sponge rubber pads, and a silicone-based sealant. These units are corrosion-resistant, suitable for outdoor and wet environments, and allow easy cable maintenance without additional parts.

They are NEMA 4X rated and can be installed before or after cable tray installation.

Key Considerations

Material selection: Steel, aluminum, or fiberglass frames are chosen based on environmental conditions and corrosion resistance. Fire rating: Intumescent pillows and modular systems provide certified fire protection, while weatherstops focus on environmental sealing. Maintenance: Modular and elastomeric systems allow easy cable addition or removal without compromising the seal.

Application: Choose components based on penetration type, number of cables, environmental exposure, and required certifications. By combining these components appropriately, cable tray penetrations can be effectively sealed to meet fire safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
