IBM enjoyed good PLM sales in 2002

1 February 2003

IBM PLM is gaining market share. In 2002, IBM PLM enjoyed double-digit growth in software and services signings have almost tripled.
PLM is at the core of the enterprise. It is where intellectual property is created, and it is how one takes the ideas of customers, engineers, and scientists, and turn those ideas into products and services. Customer benefits include: accelerated time-to-market, innovation, additional revenue streams and cost savings.
IBM PLM core solutions include CATIA, ENOVIA, SMARTEAM and ServiceAfterSales. CATIA is a leading product development solution with over 210 000 licences worldwide in 2001. ENOVIA product data management applications, totally integrated with CATIA, offer a wide range of collaborative PLM solutions. Customers include: Lockheed Martin, EADS, Boeing, Embraer, PSA Peugeot Citroen, BMW, Philips Semiconductor, Sony, Alstom Transport, Volvo Truck and Nissan Diesel.
SMARTEAM is an award-winning, Web-based collaborative PDM solution. The software has won Aberdeen Group's best PDM implementation prize in 2001, won 2001 Cadence Show Stopper Award granted to only 10 of 1900 companies at the NDES tradefair and was included in the CIMData top ten annual state of the industry market 2001. Added to the IBM portfolio in 2001, it experienced double digit growth every quarter. According to IBM, customers from all industries report dramatic results from using SMARTEAM. This includes reductions in project start-up time of over 40%; customer and after market support improvements of over 30% and savings in travel and meeting costs of over 30%.
ServiceAfterSales
IBM is also the unique provider of ServiceAfterSales. ServiceAfterSales extends product data out into the field, where the product is used and maintained. Using IBM's ServiceAfterSales offering, Peugeot is now diagnosing and repairing 90% of its cars within 4 hours, and 80% of its cars within a day. The average used to be more than a day.
IBM PLM solutions are built on a common/open infrastructure and exploit IBM middleware. It is also interesting to note that IBM PLM leads in the aerospace and automotive markets. A few examples of this fact are:
* 100% of all large commercial and regional aircraft designers use CATIA.

* 80% of all CAD installations in the aerospace industry today are CATIA.

* 100% of major helicopter manufacturers use CATIA.

* CATIA is the most widely used design system in military airplane design.

* ENOVIA is used in the International Space Station project.

* IBM is a consultant, services, and/or systems integrator for the top 12 commercial aircraft frame manufacturers in the world.
IBM PLM has over 20 000 customers worldwide, including many small and medium businesses in all industries. 50% of CATIA customers have 5 seats or less. Key contracts for 2002 included: Toyota, Volvo Trucks, Scania, DaimlerChrysler, EADS, Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, United Airlines and Electrolux.
