Océ provides solutions at EMS

April 2001

Control and reproduction of documentation is an integral part of Engineering Management Services' (EMS) business processes, but that does not mean that reproduction has always been easy or efficient. The Océ hardware and software solutions recently implemented will ensure high quality and prioritised printing. The solutions will also assist EMS in achieving their primary business objective, ie concentrating on the core business of project management and thereby allow Océ to improve the efficiency and workflow of document reproduction. EMS manages projects pertaining to the food and beverage, petrochemical, sugar refining and mining-processing industries.
Pre-existing problems
Prior to the introduction of the new systems, EMS was using analog reproduction equipment supplied and serviced by various vendors. Downtime on faulty equipment caused major delays in meeting deadlines and often resulted in poor service and backlogs. The old equipment jammed with alarming frequency, necessitating searches for jammed paper lodged in multiple places.
Outdated reproduction equipment also resulted in documents of a poor print quality, which caused unnecessary reprinting, staff frustration and financial loss, ie paper wastage, nonproductive hours and document delays.
Solutions to the problems
The reproduction of documents and the control of the operation was standardised to provide an efficient service to the corporate and project environment at EMS. The analog systems were converted to digital systems, thereby streamlining EMS's existing systems with the simple and user-friendly Océ 'green button touch' solution.
Installation of modern digital equipment, supplied by a single vendor, resulting in an improvement in quality and delivery.
"EMS required a total solution," said Ian Greenop, Business Development Manager for Océ. "Océ met this challenge efficiently and cost-effectively by implementing document reproduction systems - from A4 up to A0 - that have resulted in greater productivity, superior quality and substantial cost-savings for EMS."
The following hardware was installed at EMS:
* One Océ 9800 wide format copier/printer with folder.

* One Océ 9600 wide format copier/printer with folder.

* Reprodesk print-management software.

* Two Océ 3165 digital A3/A4 copiers/printers.
