White ink and clear varnish enhance images

1 December 2005

White-hot news in super wide-format printing is the application of white ink and clear varnish to enhance images. This latest innovation from Gandinnovations was introduced at Viscom in Germany in October.
Available exclusively through Océ South Africa, the JETi 3150 UV flatbed printer is used to apply white ink under or on top of the image during the printing process and is used to give the JETi 3150 another dimension.
Clear varnish, used to make the colours more brilliant, is applied to the image after printing is completed. It can be applied onto the entire image or just highlighting certain areas.
The clear varnish not only highlights an image, but also offers protection from the elements, offering JETi users a cheaper alternative to lamination.
Océ South Africa represents the full range of Gandinnovations JETi super wide format solvent inkjet printers, including the JETi 3312 and 3318 roll-to-roll printers, JETi 3300DS dye sublimation printer, JETi 5000 printer and, naturally, the JETi 3150 UV flatbed.
The JETi range features unique components such as the new Spectra printheads that are designed to handle larger pigment particles, which allows greater colour saturation while maintaining production speeds and resulting in vibrant colours.
Other components include Mesh Adapters, an ink by-pass system, a smooth ink flow, intuitive user interface, Hi and Low vacuum systems, an advanced material handling system and a unique power supply system.
All models can print on a variety of substrates including reinforced vinyl, pressure-sensitive vinyl, canvas, fabrics, mesh and paper. The solvent-based inks offer ultraviolet durability of up to three years unlaminated, depending on the environment in which the print is used.
Océ South Africa's Wojciech Skrzeszewski says, "Océ feels it can offer its customers the quality they in turn seek to provide to their end users. We really think our customers will be able to find a use for the clear varnish with every project they complete."
