Minolta introduces flagship copier/printer

1 April 2003

Minolta South Africa has launched its flagship copier/printer, the Dialta Di850, a productive and reliable core machine with network-enhanced workflow efficiency, large volume printing ability and good image quality.
Minolta copier division product manager, Paul Symonds, says the Di850 is Minolta's fastest copier to date offering copies of 85 pages per minute. "The Di850 opens up new dimensions of productivity for print-on-demand (PoD) users in corporate environments and in commercial print and copy shops.
"Such environments typically require high speeds to turn jobs around quickly, large paper supplies and output capacity for hands-off long-run operation, extensive finishing capabilities, as well as reliability and durability," says Symonds.
Symonds says the benefits of the Di850 go beyond its speed. "For PoD operators, speed per minute is less important than what a machine can deliver on a daily basis. The Di850's maximum monthly output volume is 750k, a high volume output that does not come at the expense of quality, a fact that is attributable to the machine's use of polymerised toner.
"Polymerised toner particles are only half the size of conventional ones and are uniform in shape, with a smooth surface. The result is clear-cut improvements in the quality of output, that is, better reproduction of thin lines and dots for sharp copies and prints and smoother halftone gradations at 600dpi," says Symonds.
Multiple imaging modes allow for the selection of the best setting for any original document including text, photo, combined text and photo, and increased contrast mode for light originals. The Di850's solid frame and base also decrease vibration which can affect image precision.
The Di850 also offers advanced job handling, allowing users to manage up to ten jobs at once, recall jobs and job settings from memory, create job queues, and program jobs or check job status.
Another of the Di850's key features is its ability to maximise information sharing. The Di850 quickly scans paper documents and converts them to data. These images are then placed in a shared folder on the network, where the information can be viewed, edited and printed out from any PC whenever necessary. Scanning features include scan to server, scan to hard drive and scan to email.
Other productivity features of the Di850 include the option of a printer controller, which provides a network printer capable of outputting 85-pages-per-minute, as well as performing advanced finishing functions such as folding, stapling and punching.
A large volume paper supply system and an auto cassette change function that automatically switches from an empty tray to a full one reduce the frequency of paper replenishing and improve productivity.
