Corrugated printing press

1 August 2003

First Graphics has announced that Scitex Vision has introduced its new and improved CORjet corrugated printing press, featuring two new product enhancements.
The Vision CORjet is an industrial digital inkjet press for packaging and display applications. Its range of applications includes trial runs, seasonal promotions, new product launches, presentations and samples, personalisation and customisation and exhibition booths.
The new system's improvements, which will come as standard on all new presses, have been developed in conjunction with existing installations to ensure maximum user-friendliness while enhancing the machine's performance.
The Scitex Vision CORjet press has five main components: new ApriRip software; the CORjet system controller; the new automatic substrate loader and unloader; the print engine; and an integrated dryer unit.
The new ApriRip software and the system controller together control the press. The software takes standard digital artwork files and, using preset hot folders, automatically RIPs them to CT and/or LW formats. This ensures maximum image and text quality. The RIPed files are then sent to the system controller, which governs ICC colour management and is where operational functions are automatically or manually input.
The new loader and unloader system comprises two elevators for loading and unloading and a vacuum transportation system, all automatically operated via the machine's main controller. The elevator automatically adjusts its height in accordance with the number of sheets stacked on the loading unit, ensuring that it is in line with the vacuum table and print engine.
The Vision CORjet is ideal for printing on corrugated substrates up to 10 mm thick as the ultra-high speed inkjet is a non-impact process. It prints in six colours, sheet-to-sheet, attaining a throughput of up to 150 m2 per hour.
Being digital, the CORjet requires no films, plates or other traditional prepress processes. Further convenience and cost savings can be enjoyed by both printer and customer as no printing plates or large inventories of printed stock need to be stored.
