Easy, productive colour in a wide format system

1 October 2003

The latest offering from Océ SA, the TCS400, offers easy job submission and media handling with a user-friendly operator panel. The TCS400 print system consists of a print engine and an integrated Océ Power Logic Controller. It handles complex jobs with speed, making it ideal for bid sets, quick check plots and release plots.
With applications in the commercial printing, manufacturing, architectural, engineering and construction industries, the TCS400 can help boost productivity," says Océ SA divisional manager, WFPS, Luis Roldan. "A high internal speed and large memory allows the Océ Power Logic Controller to streamline job processing. Different file types are recognised, allowing the user to print almost any file without converting it first. Print files spool directly onto the controller's hard disk, thereby freeing the network from unnecessary traffic.

"Furthermore," he continues, "a powerful processor allows files to be processed speedily, so the print engine starts almost immediately. On top of that, users get true concurrency. While the print engine prints one file, the controller receives and processes the next."
The controller offers additional 'power' facilities such as:
* Urgent jobs can be moved to the top of the queue with the Advanced Queue Manager, while low priority jobs are being put on hold.

* Already processed files remain in the history queue, allowing for reprints to be made without having to reprocess the job.

* The overall system status can be monitored via the system control panel that shows ink volume, the media loaded and the controller's workload.
Print wide format in colour
"The Océ TCS400 printer engine was designed to make colour wide format printing as easy as black and white," explains Roldan. "Simple multiroll media handling makes it possible to have different media types and sizes ready for printing. DIN-formats are supported, which saves time on trimming. Operator interaction has been minimised - if action is required, it is self-explanatory. Clear wizards will guide the user through print head changes or print quality optimisation.
"With Océ drivers and submission tools, it is easy to produce exactly what the user wants. The drivers provide a wide variety of options. Whatever they choose, the default settings are only a click away. If files are in a printable format, submit them directly - there is no need to open the file in the application."
The Océ TCS400 can be expanded to include a colour scanner, which enables wide format colour copying and scan-to-file. The print system can also be upgraded to include future software releases. Like other Océ wide format printers, there is a very short paper path minimising the chance of a paper jam. The multiprinthead design allows for unattended printing in the overnight mode.
