Colour scanning at mono prices

1 December 2003

Graphtec Corporation has introduced to the southern African market a range of high-performance A0/A1-size colour image scanners that are designed for CAD, GIS/mapping, reprographics and document archiving applications.
The CS1000EV/1100EV allows the user to select from 800 dpi through 200 dpi interpolated resolution. In addition to monochrome drawings, the CS-Series scanners, also support 256-level greyscale and 256-colour data input. The CS2000EV accurately scans blueprints and monochrome drawings in addition to colour photographs and graphics (16,7 million colours of the 24-bit colour spectrum).
At 200 dpi the CS1000EV/1100EV scans at 1,28 inches per second for colour and 3,8" per second in mono (excluding data processing time). There are also several driver-controllable speeds to choose from, depending on the type of document the user wishes to scan. Selecting a lower speed ensures that even damaged and delicate drawings are handled with care.
The CS2000EV can reduce 24-bit colour data to more manageable 8-bit colour data. The colour depth reduction function on the CS1000EV reduces the wide 24-bit colour spectrum with its 16,7 million colours to the 256 colours of the more practical 8-bit colour spectrum. The user can also change the colours after the data has been scanned in.
The new 'Express mode' function reduces the time required to scan data by approximately 40%, enabling high-speed transfer of full-colour 24-bit data without any colour deterioration. The express mode is useful for scanning in detailed colour documents for post-scan editing and archiving. In addition, no warm-up time is required, so the user can switch on the CS2000 and start scanning immediately.
A wide range of file formats is supported for saving the documents to a file after they have been scanned and edited. These file formats include: Bitmaps, RLE compressed bitmaps, CAD Overlay ESP, TIFF non-compressed (MSB, LSB), TIFF G4 (MSB, LSB), TIFF PackBits (MSB, LSB), TIFF CCITT G3 (MSB, LSB), TIFF G3 (MSB, LSB), TIFF JPEG (MSB, LSB), CALS G4, PCX, INTERGRAPH G4, Sun Raster non-compressed, Sun Raster Encode, JPEG compression (10 levels - grayscale format only).
