New superwide 50" monochrome scanner

1 August 2000

"With the new superwide format 50" monochrome Panorama scanners, Contex has incorporated the latest in imaging technology and has set new standards for wide-format scanning speeds," enthused Aubrey Lindemann, Managing Director of Imaging Innovations, sole distributors for Contex in sub-Saharan Africa. "Not only is it possible to scan a full A0 size drawing at 400 dpi turbo in just 7 seconds - but the 50" wide imaging area enables a user to scan A0 drawings in landscape - eliminating post-scanning processing. The scanner can also handle media with thicknesses of up to 15 mm."
The new Panorama boasts new horizons in scanning technology with dual 2D-Adaptive enhancement, in which processing is performed simultaneously and in realtime on individual aspects of the original. Enhancement features include ADL+ error diffusion halftoning, 2D- Adaptive foreground thresholding, 2D-Adaptive background suppression, and 2D Auto edge detection. Says Lindemann, "All this functionality, which is embedded in the scanner's hardware assists the user to produce clean, crisp scans from poor quality drawings, blueprints and photos at any time."
In addition to its scanning features, the Panorama doubles as a perfect large-format monochrome digital copier when connected to a large-format digital or inkjet printer - without the user losing the benefits of the individual devices scanning and plotting facilities. Using Contex's own JETimage Copy Software, special copy modes - each matched with specific original types, are supported by the scanner's digital image processing. "These allow the Panorama to be used as an input device for copying of graphic, posters and complex maps with fully adjustable greytone parameters," says Lindemann.
