Omnigraphics Express installs Epson's advanced proofing technology

1 June 2000

Omnigraphics Express, a print-for-pay printing house, has invested in two Epson Color Proofer 9000s. These will help the company meet the demands of the photography market that require one-off small to medium printing formats in A3 and A1 sizes, to be printed in a fast turnaround time, without sacrificing high-quality DTI output.
"Omnigraphics Express falls under the Omnigraphics umbrella, and was launched to provide a service to customers who needed jobs to be done fast," says Francois Mans, owner of OmniExpress in Cape Town. "We pride ourselves on providing a fast turnaround time to our customers, with jobs being completed anything from 2 hours to 24 hours depending on the job size."
Mans says that historically, the biggest bottleneck in the printing industry's digital workflow process has been the proofing cycle, due to the lack of an affordable and accurate digital proofing system on the market. "We were forced to rely on proofs from printers that were not only costly, but could only produce 400 dpi output - not sharp enough to satisfy clients' requirements.
"We needed to find a printing solution that could meet our clients' high standards for quality and affordability. To resolve this digital-proofing problem, OmniExpress purchased the Epson Stylus Pro 9000," adds Mans.
He points out that true colour is critical through all stages of the process, from proof to final product. The Epson Stylus Color 9000 provides an incredible level of flexibility, combined with accuracy. He says whether creating colour separations from transparencies, or working from a final disk of colour separations already in position, quality proofs meet the professional requirements of OmniExpress clients.
"With the introduction of the Epson Stylus Pro 9000, we have truly raised the bar within the wide-format printer market, delivering outstanding photo-quality output without compromising text and line art at print speeds that exceed the competition," says Tim Finch, Sales and Marketing Direct of Colour Corporate. "The Epson Stylus Pro 9000 is a reinforcement of our belief that professional printing products should always push the limits of technology to maintain the highest levels for quality and productivity."
Finch goes on to say that this product features Epson's Micro Piezo dual density droplet print technology. This consists of several key elements, including true 1440 x 720 dpi resolution, a precise and consistent dot size and an innovative six-colour high capacity, quick drying ink system. This system incorporates cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan, light magenta and black.
"The Proofer 9000 prints sizes up to A3 to 44" wide and the length is dependent on the length on the paper," he says. Finch says that each individual easy to install cartridge holds up to 220 mm of ink, enabling unattended overnight operation.
