Océ-Technologies has announced the introduction of the printer version of its most versatile wide-format multifunctional system. Océ has designed its Model 9600 as a true workgroup printer - one that allows demanding CAD/EDM users and print providers ease of use plus the flexibility to customise their systems. The 9600, which accommodates volume needs between those of the high volume 9700/9800 and the lower volume 9400, completes the Océ range of digital wide-format multifunctional machines.
The system prints at four A0 a minute, a figure that is maintained no matter how complex the workload or document. With its RIP-once technology, the 9600 processes a job only once, regardless of the required number of prints. It then sends the information to the system's set memory which can hold sets of 250 A0s. This ability streamlines the design and distribution phases in multiple user environments. Other productivity-enhancing features include file spooling to quickly off-load networks, multitasking for the simultaneous spooling, processing, printing and finishing of different document sets and high-speed network interfaces that support all popular protocols.
Traditionally, users have had to compromise when it comes to media availability. With the Océ 9600, users have a number of options with up to seven on-line media from a combination of up to six rolls and three sheet feeders, the latter for cut sheet media. Starting with two rolls, these media modules can be configured in any of 16 ways to meet individual customer requirements. At every stage users have an easy and cost-effective route to add media components. The 9600 allows printing on a wide variety of media from A4 to A0 so all documents can be printed together as complete sets.
In addition to its standard receiving tray which holds up to 100 prints, the system has two optional finishing modules: an on-line folder and a copy delivery tray for unattended production runs. The on-line folder is designed specifically for the Océ 9600 and features an optional extra-capacity belt delivery unit.
An extensive range of drivers available for the 9600 provide access to the system's many features from within the user application, for example allowing users to select media and finishing requirements from their workstations. These drivers include AutoCAD, Windows applications, Postscript printing and Océ's unique Plot Director. Further enhancing user control, the forthcoming two-way communication system gives on-screen information about the available media, job status and operational functions. Thanks to the latest Java technology, this facility is available to virtually all users, regardless of operating system and hardware.
