Printer boosts productivity

1 June 2000

Durban-based printing and packaging company Shave & Gibson is pleased with the NovaJet PRO 50 printer that it recently purchased from First Graphics. Shave & Gibson communications manager Alan Hay says the company handles both large and small packaging. "Time and presentation were the main reasons for buying the PRO 50. Up to a few weeks ago we used an A4 printer. Most packaging required wide format printing, which meant that we had to stick numerous A4 size-pages together before submitting the proofs to a client for approval. It was time-consuming and did not look presentable. We decided it was time to upgrade the printer and started investigating the market."
Although Shave & Gibson is an established client of First Graphics, the company looked at various printers. "There are similar products on the market and we have attended numerous demonstrations. In the end we have chosen the PRO 50. It fulfils our requirements and is affordable. Furthermore, we have a good and long-standing relationship with First Graphics since we have bought other products from the company over the past few years. We know that we can rely on First Graphics for support and after-sales service. The PRO 50 provides us with a full layout for every printing job," concludes Hay.
First Graphics' National Sales Manager Eric Morgan says the NovaJet 50 is a good choice for businesses involved in quick turnarounds and small production print runs of signs, exhibit booth graphics, or point-of-sale material. "It offers a wide range of time saving features that lets you spend your time creating graphics with impact rather than having the process impact your graphics. With Encad's optional motorised media feed and take up system, you never have to worry about your work being damaged or smudged as it leaves the printer." The option available to the PRO 50 allows finished images to be wound onto a separate take-up spool. The spooled images can then be transferred to the feed reel and cut when convenient or sent to a laminator for finishing. The feed and take-up reels are equipped with their own motors, so there is no reliance on the printer paper drive to do the pulling - this means that heavier and larger rolls - up to 6" (152 mm) in diameter - may be used. Tension of the media is controlled automatically by optical sensors.
Morgan says the advantage of the PRO 50 is that it can be used for a variety of applications. "Engineers and architects can print sophisticated CAD/GIS renderings with smooth colour blends and saturated solids." The 50 allows sign-makers to produce 50" wide graphics for their print-for-pay needs. Because it can easily print on canvas, it is a good output device for artists looking to reproduce their work digitally. First Graphics is a specialist in supplying equipment, technology and consumables to the printing industries, and the sole local distributor of Encad Products in South Africa.
