Imaging Innovations, sole distributors for Sub-Saharan Africa for the Contex range of wide-format scanners, has announced the release of Contex's innovative colour copying software JETimage BASE 2.0. JETimage BASE is a complete colour copying software application designed as a free interface tool between the Contex line of wide-format scanners and a wide range of inkjet printers (HP, Xerox and Encad).

"A general problem with the colour scan-to-print copy process is matching the original input colours with the printer's output colours", says Aubrey Lindemann, Managing Director of Imaging Innovations. "Scanners can see many more colours than printers can print, so a solution must be found for all the unmatched colours."

With closed loop calibration and JETimage BASE, Contex have created a joint hardware and software solution to the problem that allows the scanner to read the entire colour range of the printer before copying. The software calculates the best possible mapping of scanner colours to printer colours using the selected paper type as one of the parameters. Guided by a calibration wizard feature, test patches are printed and then scanned to automatically generate a colour-matching map that will be applied during copying. As a standard, the JETimage BASE software includes optimal colour mapping schemes for the most popular printers and media.

Lindemann continues, "In fact, with JETimage BASE you can control all aspects of your printed output with convenient options for output size, margins, print quality, media type and copy layout."

The JETimage BASE interface includes a preview window that provides not only control of settings, but also a wide range of on-screen copy manipulation tools such as zoom, pan and align. The copy frame indicates how selected output size will effect the margins and crop the image. Copying colour originals with tonal adjustments include lightness, black/white point and saturation.

"JETimage BASE is a powerful, professional tool enabling easy production of vivid high quality colour-corrected copies and also exploits the monochrome scanning features for perfect black and white copy assignments," concludes Lindemann.
