Shipping of 100 000 000th thermal inkjet peripheral

1 February 2001

Hewlett-Packard has shipped its 100 000 000th inkjet product. If these products were laid end-to-end, they would run the length of the Las Vegas 'Strip' approximately 6000 times.
HP shipped its first thermal inkjet printer in 1984 and has been a leader ever since. Indeed, HP has expanded its inkjet product line during the last 10 years well beyond its flagship HP DeskJet printer line to include wide and large-format printers, 'all-in-ones', colour copiers and fax machines.
"HP's award-winning inkjet products have provided our customers with unrivalled print quality and performance for many, many years and we are not close to the limit of what we can achieve with thermal inkjet technology," said Wim Heuninck, HP Marketing Manager, printers & peripherals. "As we move into the new millennium, we are poised to capture the emerging digital imaging market by combining our printing and imaging infrastructure with our growing leadership on the web."
The company's line-up of thermal inkjet products includes more than 25 home office, small office and professional products, including the new HP DeskJet 970Cse/Cxi printer and HP PhotoSmart P1100/P1100xi printer. These latest additions combine the best 'everyday' printing with the ability to effectively reproduce photos, produce vivid colour graphics and crisp black text.
HP is a leading provider of digital-imaging technology and products, enabling home and office users to explore creative and practical new applications of digital imaging. The company is focused on capitalising on the opportunities of the Internet and the proliferation of electronic services.
HP plans to launch Agilent Technologies as an independent company by mid 2000. Agilent consists of HP's test and measurement, semiconductor products, chemical analysis and healthcare solutions businesses and has leading positions in multiple market segments. HP has 123 500 employees worldwide and had total revenue of $47,1 billion in its 1998 fiscal year.
