New printer five times faster than predecessor

1 April 2001

The HP5000 and 5000PS printers, distributed locally by Graficomp, offer a production speed of 52,86 m2 per hour, up to five times faster than their predecessors, the HP DesignJet CP series printers. The high printing speeds are the result of HP's JetExpress technology with a revolutionary 25 mm wide print head. Both printers come in two sizes, with a media path that is either 152 cm or 107 cm wide.
"The 5000 series offers the user an increased level of productivity," says Graham Roy, MD of Graficomp. "Remote control of the printer is facilitated via HP DesignJet WebAccess by your Internet browser. This control includes job previewing, queue management, display of ink and media consumption levels, and accounting information."
High-speed data transmission is also ensured using a powerful HP JetDirect 610N 10/100Base-TX print server.
Low cost of operation
"The printer offers an incredibly low cost of supplies," continues Roy. "A high unattendedness is ensured with 680 cc ink cartridges, print heads that last for two to three cartridges, media rolls of up to 91,4 m in length, and an optional take-up reel on the 107 cm models."
New media saving features include length tracking, and downloadable profiles from HP's web site to ensure best results when using new media. The printer also emulates other HP DesignJet printers (HP DesignJet 1055CM, 2500CP and 3500CP).
High resolution photo quality with continuous tones, smooth transitions and a wide colour gamut is achieved using HP colour layering technology, six ink colours (CMYKcm) and 1200 dpi resolution.
The HP DesignJet 5000PS incorporates automatic Pantone calibration, offset-printing press emulations (EuroScale, SWOP, DIC and TOYO),and ICC profiles for Macintosh and Windows. The 5000 accurately reproduces both CMYK-defined and RGB-defined colours. Modular ink system with a choice of two ink sets: dye-based, and pigment-based UV inks. Consistent colours are produced from one print to the next and from one printer to another using automatic closed-loop-colour calibration.
"The 5000PS comes fully loaded, with an Adobe PostScript 3 RIP designed for print-service providers, quick-printers and graphics professionals. The RIP processes while the printer is printing and delivers excellent productivity, colour management and output predictability," concludes Roy.
