Mad House, situated in Midrand, is described as a visual communications solutions company, with its main market lying in exhibitions, portable displays and retail merchandising solutions. Acccording to MD Mike Morris, Mad House is so-named because "Ours is such a deadline industry that when we are at exhibition build-ups, everyone says this is a mad house!"

The company recently purchased an Encad NovaJet 850 42" wide format digital printer - their first Encad - from imaging solutions company First Graphics. Explains Morris: "The print quality is very good. The Encad also seems to be able to operate in fairly harsh environments - it is obviously better to have it in its own airconditioned room, but this does not seem to be absolutely essential. In addition, its high output means that it virtually paid for itself within a short space of time."

Because it is a wide-format digital printer, the Encad is able to produce the right size image for the requirements of Mad House. Morris continues: "We use it mostly for our in-house requirements to supply the graphics on the actual stands that we are selling. It is very easy to use and the running costs are reasonable. Through experimentation we've developed some unique applications which the Encad is well equipped to handle."
