Contex introduces new wide-format scanners

1 June 2002

Imaging Innovations recently announced the release of six new high-performance wide format colour and monochrome scanners. In addition, feature enhancements have been made to eight existing models, making a total of 21 different scanners available to meet individual customer requirements.
"With four new colour scanners, the Chroma Tx and the Crystal Tx, Contex introduces the industry's first 42-bit colour capture technology", said Aubrey Lindemann, managing director of Imaging Innovations. "The Tx line of scanners also introduces, for the first time, four-linear CCD cameras. The benefit is that Contex has improved the colour fidelity by capturing 42-bits instead of the previous industry standard of 36-bits. Furthermore, with an extra-linear CCD dedicated for black/white scanning, Contex can capture true panchromatic data, instead of mixing the red, green and blue linear sensors to create black/white data."
"The new Crystal Tx and Chroma Tx series have been enhanced with an optical resolution of over 500 dpi and a speed of 8"/sec (monochrome) and 3"/sec (ChromaTX - colour mode) - making the Tx series the fastest colour and monochrome scanners in the industry," enthused Lindemann. These scanners also incorporate FireWire as a connectivity option along with a SCSI interface.
The clear advantage of the new FireWire option is simplicity-by-design, FireWire is 'plug-n-play' simplifying installation as compared to the higher installation complexity for SCSI-based connections.
Lindemann also advised that the existing Chameleon and Cougar series products have been enhanced with increased scanning speeds: from 2,2"/sec to 3"/sec to meet the scanning speed requirements in the CAD market-segments. Field upgrades are available to current customer installations of the Chameleon and Cougar products families.
Contex scanners are supported on Windows 98, 98SE, ME, NT4, 2000 and XP through SCSI and FireWire. USB connectivity is supported on Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP.
