Images from around the world were displayed at the Epson UK headquarters recently. The 280 exhibition images were received as a result of the Epson Digital Vision 2002 competition which saw more than 200 amateur camera clubs invited to enter images representative of their communities. Entries were received from clubs in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, South Africa and the Middle East.

The competition's overall winner was 'Heather Burners' by Mike Kipling of the UK-based Gallery Photo Group. The winning image was chosen because it demonstrated an excellent use of colour and captured the movement and heat of the scene well. All the judges agreed the image was unusual with a lot of feeling.

In addition to the announcement of the overall winning image, awards were also given for the best entry within each of the three categories, which were People, Wildlife & Nature and Landscape. There was also an award for the winning entry within each of the entering countries.

"The Epson Digital Vision competition has been a great success," says Hans Dummer, general manager, Epson SA. "It has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm and reflects just how popular digital photography is. We have received some striking photographs, which depict communities and ways of life from a range of different countries and communities."
