Kyocera Mita releases its wide format range

1 October 2002

Local document solutions company, Kyocera Mita, has announced the availability of its latest wide format range of plotters, multifunctionals and scanners.
"Kyocera Mita's family of wide format devices stretches what the markets perception of 'wide format' actually entails," says Wayne Holborn, manager: sales and marketing at Kyocera Mita South Africa. "Our range offers high quality plots, copies and scans without the wait and without the high cost. The KM-4850w, for example, will produce seven A1 copies/plots a minute with a fast first copy time of just 18 s."
The wide format range is designed to meet the needs of busy offices where users require quickly produced plots and copies in A0 (down to A4), or up to 50 000 mm (copying). In every KM-4800w series device (except the KM-S4850 wide format scanner) there are two roll paper feeders and a manual feed bypass as standard, and an optional RU-4 roll feeder. This offers a maximum paper capacity of up to three rolls supporting different sizes and different media, thus ensuring efficient productivity.
The plotter controller supports a variety of CAD formats including HP-GL, HP-GL2, HP-RTL or raster format such as TIFF and JPEG. "KM-Plotclient makes plotting job sets easy, even where a job set includes different file formats and different output sizes. KM-Winprint makes printing wide format on Windows applications like PowerPoint or MS Project as simple as with any other Windows print drivers," explains Holborn.
The plotter controller is network-ready and allows the KM-P4845w, KM-P4850w and KM-4850w with optional Scan/Plot System to plot from all platforms and operating systems, such as Windows, Macintosh and UNIX. The ICP (Internet controlled plotter) controller has a built-in Web server that allows users to monitor the status of the plotter or plot jobs or to reprint them from a standard Web browser.
Since users can select any Kyocera Mita plotter on the network from KM-Plotclient, it is possible to check the plot queue and select the free plotter, contributing to enhanced productivity. Also, administrators can upgrade the firmware of the controller very easily via the Web browser.
"KM-Scantool, which is available with KM-S4850w and KM-4850w with the optional Scan/Plot System, gives users a full package of scanning possibilities such as scan-to-PC, batch scanning, image editor and scan-to-copy function with 150 dpi up to 2400 dpi with 256 greyscales," adds Holborn.
The KM-4850w and KM-S4850w have been designed to combat the problem of old, distorted or creased and torn originals, offering protection to the originals with the ability to carefully align the original so that feeding mistakes can be avoided. The KM-4800w series offers a high standard resolution of real 600 x 600 dpi, 256 greyscales in scanning and plotting, and the highest standard of 16 greyscales per dot (and 256 greyscales in total) for copying.
In addition, interested parties will be able to view a demonstration of the entire range at an open day organised by Kyocera Mita South Africa in co-operation with Reprodraft, their specialised wide format business partner on 9 October 2002.
