Indian Ocean Fertilizer selects EDMS

1 December 2000

Intergraph Systems Southern Africa, part of the IKWEZI Group, has installed and commissioned a 50-seat AIM/Directa document management system at Indian Ocean Fertilizer in Richards Bay. The system was selected to assist Indian Ocean Fertilizer (a wholly owned subsidiary of Foskor) in the building of two new plants on the existing Brownfields projects site.
Pat Thomson, Business Unit Manager for Engineering Systems at Intergraph Systems Southern Africa says: "Intergraph has taken a fresh approach to document management. We know documents play a vital part in the total plant information management strategy, both now and in the future."
AIM/Directa, the plant document management system, provides an intelligent solution for engineering documentation. The solution has supplied Indian Ocean Fertilizer with an electronic library to index, manage and make available documents from many sources. It provides the necessary control of document revisions to ensure decisions are based on reliable up-to-date information, cross-reference to tags and assets and an audit history.
AIM/Directa controls and tracks the registration of new documents, the flow of folders, and redlines or comments. Thomson continued, "Engineers are proactively advised when changes are made and intuitive icons provide a visual notification of the document status, for example, work in progress and released. These are essential factors in reducing errors and getting things right first time."
AIM/Transmittals, also purchased by Indian Ocean Fertilizer, automatically routes documents between document libraries or vaults and can synchronise the activities of many project activities. The user-friendly web interface enables documents from multiple sources to be viewed. Legacy documents, which are usually hidden in corporate archives, are easily accessed for re-use, ensuring new work benefits from existing solutions - saving time, effort and money. This solution not only provides the foundation for document-centric applications, but is also designed to enable the integration with the related assets, tags and data.
