User-friendly wide format scanner

1 November 2001

Contex Scanning Technology has introduced a new monochrome/colour scanner, 'The Chameleon' - in two different models - the desktop 25 model (A1 scan width) and the 36 (A0 scan width). The Chameleon incorporates the latest imaging technology for high-quality monochrome and colour scanning and copying.
"The Chameleon is an ideal tool for graphic designers, sign companies, pre-press shops, photo labs, point-of-purchase and exhibit/display providers. Additionally, architectural and engineering offices will find the Chameleon 25 with its small footprint and affordable price, a convenient tool for their CAD and GIS applications," enthused Aubrey Lindemann, Managing Director of Imaging Innovations - sole distributors for Contex in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Chameleon comes in two hues, a 600 dpi Base version for monochrome scanning and a 800 dpi plus version that transforms the base level model into a high precision colour scanner. Upgrading the scanner is done using Contex's unique Smartcard Upgrade Technology. "Our credit card-sized smartcard enables the user to easily field upgrade the scanner with new features and capability. By sliding the smartcard into the scanner, you have upgraded the Chameleon base monochrome scanner to a fully featured colour scanner!" states Lindemann.
Another breakthrough for the scanner industry is Contex's built-in Advanced Power Management System that ensures an optimal working temperature, significantly reducing CCD noise. The Advanced Power Management system additionally allows the user to leave the scanner in low-power mode and program it to power up automatically before they arrive at work, saving money and adding convenience.
Furthermore, the Chameleon is the first Contex scanner to implement the new concept of one touch scanning. "One touch scanning allows the user, via three action buttons to scan to file for archiving purposes, print to copy and scan directly to their e-mail system with a single touch" states Lindemann.
"All the above new features, plus the provision of an industry standard plug-and-play, USB interface, ensure that the Chameleon fulfils its planned role as an affordable, easy-to-use wide format scanner for both the novice and the experienced user," concluded Lindemann.
