Merger results in Océ South Africa

1 August 2003

The Bidvest group has acquired Océ Printing Systems South Africa, an operating company of the Netherlands-based Océ technologies. As a result of the acquisition, Minolco's Océ division, the digital document systems and wide-format printing specialist, and Océ Printing Systems SA, a high volume supplier, have merged to form Océ South Africa.
Minolco's managing director, Alan Griffith, says, "With immediate effect, Océ South Africa will be the sole southern African distributor for all Océ high- and mid-volume digital document systems and wide-format printing systems." The merger announcement follows on the heels of international re-organisation within the Océ group. In November 2002, the former Document Printing Systems (DPS) and Production Printing Systems (PPS) divisions merged to create the new Digital Document Systems (DDS) division.
Océ South Africa's managing director, Keith Dix-Peek, says the merger of the two South African operations is in line with this international corporate restructuring in response to evolving market demands. "The new business divisions reflect the changes evident in today's workplace. Océ is now placing a clear focus on customised turnkey solutions, with additional emphasis on professional services," says Dix-Peek.
Dix-Peek says Océ Printing Systems' strength is firmly rooted in its 11 years' experience in high speed and high production printing systems, while Minolco's Océ division has, for the past 96 years, traditionally focused on the lower volume office document solutions market, as well as the wide-format product range aimed at the technical document and graphic design markets. The new company will offer its market a full spectrum of digital printing solutions supported by the core competencies of Océ South Africa.
