Onyx Graphics recently visited its SA distributor, Graficomp, to give a one-day intensive training course for its clients and resellers. Thomas Degenfeld from Onyx Graphics launched the new Onyx Version 6.0.

Onyx Graphics is a leading supplier of commercial printing software and solutions for the digital colour printing marketplace. They are currently an industry leader claiming to have the largest install base, serving production environment print customers worldwide in a variety of industries including sign, photo, proofing, CAD, GIS and textile markets.

The visit coincided with a visit from Michael Smetana of HP Europe who gave a presentation on future developments in the plotter market. As part of the presentation HP brought out a paper specialist from Switzerland, Andre Fichter, who has worked in the industry for 25 years and is employed as a consultant by the company. He gave a detailed presentation on the manufacture of paper and the process it goes through to the final product. HP is currently offering a 'buy two get one free' promotion on a specific range of papers.

HP commented that they are serious about breaking into the South African market on media and have been offering aggressive pricing and incentives. The company's range of Designjets have colour profiles already built in for exact colour matching on HP media, thus saving time and reducing wastage.

Graficomp claims to be the largest reseller of the full range of HP media in South Africa.
