Building Design Partnership (BDP) honoured as a Success Award winner for its innovative use of building information modelling (BIM) technology in developing the Glasgow Science Centre in Scotland. The Glasgow Science Centre consists of three remarkable buildings, including an IMAX theatre, tower and the science mall. Each represents an essential life element: water, air, and earth. The use of advanced 3D BIM was fundamental to the success of the design, engineering, manufacturing, and construction stages of the centre. BDP architects used BIM for inspired design as well as spatial and cost analysis. The same integrated model was passed to engineers for structural design. That BIM model was then used for automated manufacturing of the cladding by CNC milling machines. During construction, the as-built model was updated by contractors and returned to BDP for final checks and project delivery." Our BIM solution was key to unlocking our imagination so we could create beautiful and unique buildings for this project," said Colin Allan, project architect at BDP. "The methodology and software gave us the ability to be cutting edge and the confidence that the project would succeed."
