New capabilities for industrial designers

1 February 2005

PTC, the Product Development Company, has announced the general availability of Pro/Concept 3.0. Pro/Concept is the PTC solution for digital product brainstorming, which greatly supports the innovation-intensive 'fuzzy front end' of product development.
As part of PTC's industrial design solutions, Pro/Concept and Pro/Eng-ineer Interactive Surface Design Extension (ISDX) are particularly important to consumer product manufacturers, medical device companies and design consultancies. ISDX provides freeform curve and surface modelling capabilities that give industrial designers complete flexibility of product design, coupled with the single-product nature of Pro/Engineer. Moreover, ISDX is a complementary solution that allows the user to further refine Pro/Concept product ideas in Pro/Engineer. With Pro/Concept and Pro/Engineer ISDX, industrial designers are able to easily develop and present eye-catching product concepts, which can be quickly refined into fully manufacturable designs.
This latest release, Pro/Concept 3.0, adds new features that now allow industrial designers to crop images measure, and export curves via IGES. To further enhance the industrial design capabilities in Pro/Concept, new geometric manipulation features were added to this release including: rounded square, curve fillet, curve trim, pattern and curves combined with cusps.
"Pro/Concept is an exciting ideation tool," says Dayne Turbitt, MD of PTC's local distributor, productONE. "Combined with ISDX, it makes an excellent solution, allowing industrial designers to unleash their natural creativity."
"Studies show that the more attractive a product looks, the better it sells," explains Thomas Shoemaker, director product marketing, PTC. "With the release of Pro/Concept 3.0 and the limited time offer for ISDX, PTC is enhancing its commitment to industrial designers by providing key capabilities that allow companies to optimise the process of designing and manufacturing more evocative products."
