Computer Faire plans an innovative show for the new millennium

1 April 2000

The organisers of Computer Faire, TML Reed Exhibitions, will introduce several new concepts and innovations to Computer Faire 2000 which they feel are fitting for the first show of the new millennium.

Computer Faire 2000, to be held at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Johannesburg from 24-27 May, is organised annually by TML Reed Exhibitions, a dynamic partnership between Times Media, one of South Africa's leading media groups and Reed Exhibitions, the world's leading organiser of trade and public shows.
The increase in competition for exhibitors' rands has not dented sales for the show and space in Hall 1 which houses the office automation hall, is already sold out. Among the new features already announced for Computer Faire 2000 are Windows World, which will be in South Africa for the first time, a Java pavilion, a Linux pavilion, a digital imaging expo and other specialised industry sector pavilions in the five halls at Computer Faire.
Lazarus Zim, M-Net CEO, will present the keynote address at the opening function, which is being sponsored by Lawson Software. Celeste Abroms, Computer Faire organiser, says that judging from the way sales are going, local businesses continue to have faith in the pull of Computer Faire. Another innovation is that ITWeb, South Africa's leading daily on-line IT news service, will sponsor several keynote addresses at Computer Faire 2000.
"The world's most prestigious computer shows have always been platforms for industry leaders to share their visions, unveil new initiatives or set out industry trends," says Ranka Jovanovic, ITWeb's Editorial Director. "Keynote speakers have included Microsoft's Bill Gates, Intel's Andy Grove, Apple's Steve Jobs, Cisco's John Chambers, Sun's Scott McNealy, Oracle's Larry Elison - the industry's very top trend-setters. And the global IT community has become accustomed to anticipate these keynote addresses as the industry's milestones or turning points.

"We believe that Computer Faire, the IT industry's premier exhibition and ITWeb, South Africa's leading news and information service, make logical partners and are ideally positioned to establish Computer Faire 2000 keynotes as the top platform for local IT and business champions. We are finalising the list of speakers and these will be announced shortly," she added.
ITWeb's editorial team of nine specialised journalists will also provide live reporting from Computer Faire 2000. Meanwhile, Hall 4 will house the digital imaging expo and companies such as Phototechniks, Teltron, Sony and Accord Technologies have booked space.
Accord Technologies, which distributes Psion products in South Africa, will launch several new products at the Faire, including the Psion Revo, a pocket-sized organiser designed for people who want e-mail and Internet access capabilities. They will also have hands-on demonstrations of the new Psion 7 handheld. The layout of the show is as follows:
* Hall 1 - office automation, housing business technology exhibitors and members of NOPSA (National Office Products Association).
* Hall 2 - corporate solutions including Linux and Java pavilion.
* Hall 3 - Windows World, incorporating business multimedia.
* Hall 4 - computer graphics and digital imaging.
* Hall 5a - TeleNetCom, incorporating Internet, networking, communications and information security.
* Hall 5b - Cellexpo Africa.
