Industry-specific support for Autodesk's local user base

1 February 2000

Users of Autodesk's PC-based design and geographic information systems (GIS) software will enjoy more industry-specific support following the recent (February 2000) reorganisation of the company. Realignment of Autodesk's channel and the introduction of a simplified internal structure transition the company from a product-oriented outfit to a customer-focused, solution-driven organisation.
"As part of our internal transformation we have introduced an organisational model based on three major industry groups - manufacturing; construction and services; and government, utilities and telecommunications," says Errol Ashwell, Managing Director of Autodesk Africa. "The new structure empowers Autodesk and its channel to introduce a more customer focused approach within each of these industry sectors. Dealers with industry-specific experience will offer our user base a high value-add, solution-driven service."
Autodesk is a leading supplier of PC design and geographic information systems (GIS) software and digital content creation tools. One of the largest software companies in the world, it has more than four million customers in over 150 countries.
In addition to a flatter structure, which will speed up decision-making processes within the company, Autodesk's internal reorganisation includes the establishment of a new region. A new 'international region' is being set up to cater for the company's operations in developing countries such as Eastern Europe, Egypt, Israel, the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa and Turkey.
"Business decisions within Autodesk's EMEA region have, until now, been constrained by EU regulations and haven't always been in the best interests of the users in non-EU countries," explains Ashwell. "Autodesk operations falling within the new international region will in future enjoy greater freedom to tailor their operations to suit local market conditions. A more flexible approach to the South African market will be a big benefit to Autodesk's South African user base."
Following closely on the recent appointment of WorldsView as Autodesk's new distributor for sub-Saharan Africa, Autodesk's new focus will be implemented rapidly throughout the region. WorldsView's vision for the reseller channel already incorporates the fundamental elements of the recent Autodesk announcement, and is expected to deliver significant improvements in customer service levels throughout Africa.
Recognising the enormous opportunities which e-commerce holds for its business, Autodesk is also appointing an Internet business development director at its EMEA head-office. The position has been created with the sole purpose of preparing the company to capitalise on e-commerce business opportunities.
