Canon factories in South Africa have passed all standards required for the ISO environmental label. The stringent qualifications, which are examined by the International Standards Organisation based in Europe, require that research and development do not impact negatively on the environment.

Mark Geldenhuys, Product Manager at Canon SA, says the impact of this will be felt in Scandinavia and Western Europe where customers are more environmentally aware, even to the extent of choosing one product over another based on such criteria. "These standards have to be met in manufacturing, production and recycling stages at all Canon factories. With a locally represented company such as Canon qualifying for this prestigious award, indications are good that South Africa is on track for greater environmental awareness," he says.
