The Port Elizabeth technical college has been given a R6 million grant of AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor 3D mechanical design software. The grant comprises 60 licences of Autodesk's 2D design platform, AutoCAD, and another 60 licences of 3D mechanical design solution, Autodesk Inventor. "Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) is an essential requirement for our engineering studies and interior decorating learners. So we offer CAD training as part of our enrichment programme," explains Rulaine Cunningham, director: information communication technology.
"Autodesk's software grant means learners will be training using the most recent version of world-class software, enhancing the relevance of their skills. The increased number of licences will enable us to offer enrichment courses to more students, while engineering studies students will be training using a specialised mechanical design solution for the first time. "In addition, we are in a position to begin offering training on Autodesk Inventor as part of our industry short course programme," concludes Cunningham.
