IBM unveils powerful workstations

1 April 2002

IBM has introduced its new line-up of IntelliStations, and has also moved its Unix workstations under the IntelliStation brand. The brand already includes the fast growing NT workstations.
The addition of Unix capabilities ensures that the IntelliStation workstation product line addresses the entire market - from entry level to powerful scientific models - and cover the entire spectrum of applications - from financial, life sciences and electronic design automation to computer-aided design and architecture/engineering workloads. Says IBM SA's eServer pSeries sales manager, Akhter Dukanda: "The new mix of Unix and Intel capabilities in our workstation range gives customers more choice of functionality, while keeping their cost of ownership at Intel-based levels. Both the pSeries and xSeries IntelliStation's are Linux-enabled, giving the client the flexibility of choosing the most cost-effective operating system."
The IntelliStation features a powerful graphics card, enabling the kind of rapid image manipulation needed, for instance, by automobile and aircraft designers wishing to rotate complex images of components without losing detail or realism. The Unix workstation, the IntelliStation POWER 265, includes either the GXT6500P or GXT4500P graphics card.
