First Graphics enjoys successful Kenyan launch

1 August 2002

Imaging solutions company First Graphics has expanded formally into Kenya, adding to its presence in other parts of the continent. Typotech Imaging Systems, a Nairobi-based company, has joined forces with First Graphics in a joint venture that establishes Typotech as a First Graphics dealer under the banner 'Typotech Imaging Solutions'.
The distribution agreement is mutually beneficial to both companies, allowing the achievement of unique goals in a symbiotic and efficient manner. The joint venture was launched in Nairobi in April this year. The function was attended by all the significant players in the Kenyan printing industry as well as by representatives of the Kenyan Ministry of Trade and Industry and the South African High Commission. Typotech Imaging Systems, headed by executive director Alfred Kandarah, was established in Nairobi five years ago as an imaging consultancy, involved in design and advising clients on cost effective production systems and processes. Typotech entered into negotiations with First Graphics, which is the only litho plate manufacturer with a coil line production line in Africa.
Kandarah became aware that First Graphics, with other bases already in Botswana and Zimbabwe in southern Africa and in Nigeria in west Africa, wished to establish a presence in east and central Africa. Kandarah reports: "Our agreement with First Graphics grants us exclusive rights to market and distribute their products in Kenya, with options to venture in the regional markets."
Export executive Herbert Uren, who described the launch, which was widely reported in the Kenyan Press, as a very successful occasion, represented first Graphics at the launch. "From our side the launch was a massive success with impressive interest from Kenya. It seems as though they had been looking for an alternative to the European market for a long time. First Graphics' new dealer will definitely increase printing options to the Kenyan and wider east African market. At First Graphics, we have been most impressed with Typotech Imaging Systems from the very beginning of our working relationship."
