EDS achieves one million end users

1 December 2002

EDS recently announced that its Parasolid 3D modelling kernel software now has one million licensed end users, doubling its 3D product modelling solutions end-user base in just two years.
Parasolid is a geometry modelling software product licensed by companies developing the advanced computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) applications used in product development today.
"We have achieved this unique position by licensing Parasolid to partners and competitors alike in order to establish an effective standard for geometry representation," said Chuck Grindstaff, president, PLM products, EDS PLM Solutions. "In 1997, Unigraphics Solutions (which EDS acquired in 2001 and merged with Structural Dynamics Research Corporation to form EDS PLM Solutions) made an announcement that it would license Parasolid, its core modelling technology, to the PLM industry under a 'level-playing-field' strategy. Parasolid grew quickly, reaching its goal of 500 000 licences by 2000 and now one million in 2002.
EDS attributes the strong Parasolid growth to the success and momentum of its customers' applications and to the introduction of new Parasolid-based CAD/CAM/CAE products into the market every year.
