GIS in Africa

1 August 2003

The 5th GIMS User Conference is almost upon us and the GIMS staff are looking forward to hosting this exciting event for you, our valued clients. This year's Conference is being held at The Castle, Kyalami in Johannesburg, and will see many delegates attending from various southern African countries.
The delegates will be representative of the numerous disciplines that use GIS in their day-to-day work. Based on feedback from previous conferences, the emphasis this year will be 'Modelling and Data Integration'.
A new format at the Conference will be the Pre-Conference Workshops highlighting the most recent developments in GIS technology. The workshops are designed to not only challenge our users but motivate and inspire users to implement the full capabilities of GIS in the workplace.
The four workshops will cover the following topics:
(These topics have been selected to meet the needs of the broad spectrum of our users.)
* ArcGIS - editing and cartography.
* Internet mapping - all you need to know.
* Geodatabase and ArcObjects - implementing.
* Remote sensing - imaging and integration.
The workshops will be presented by leading international and local experts, all of whom have first hand knowledge of the current GIS trends and developments. GIMS looks forward to welcoming the following presenters from ESRI and Leica GeoSystems:
Clint Brown - Product Manager, ArcGIS ESRI
Brian Golden - Manager, Systems Integration, ESRI
Simon Wills - Regional Manager, Leica GeoSystems
Days 2 and 3 will cover keynote speakers sharing their views on GIS implementation and management as well as numerous papers from people in the industry. GIS and geographic imaging experts from ESRI and Leica GeoSystems will be on-hand to provide an overview of the Geospatial world and its applications. This provides an ideal opportunity for our users to chat to the experts and have the many questions answered!
The success of previous conferences has always been the openness between delegates who share their experiences and knowledge of implementing Spatial Systems
Registration is available on www.gims.com and booking for the workshops is essential. GIMS staff and management look forward to seeing you at the 5th GIMS User Conference.
