Intergraph boasts huge success in telecoms market

1 November 2000

Intergraph Corporation has signed eight new contracts in the communications industry during the first half of the year 2000. "With this flurry of new contracts, Intergraph reinforces its leading position in providing Geospatial Network Resource Management solutions for the international communications industry," commented Rex van Olst, Managing Director of Intergraph Systems Southern Africa. "The primary reason for these Intergraph wins was attributed to the speed of implementation and robustness of the Intergraph G/Comms solutions."
Bell Canada, the largest Canadian Telco, has awarded a multimillion dollar contract to Intergraph. The project includes consolidation and replacement of Bell Canada's four existing network legacy systems, which are used to provision and manage a network of 10 million access lines. Intergraph will provide project management, system configuration, data migration support, legacy system interface, localisation and training services as well as product software maintenance. The contract was signed in July 2000 and implementation is well underway.

Communications giant SBC, which is a strategic equity partner in South Africa's Telkom, has also selected Intergraph as a supplier to manage outside plant information. The prototype will be implemented in Carson City, Nevada and includes land base, civil, fibre and copper capabilities.
SBC will also extend the number of ARES Active FRAMME users. ARES, an Intergraph project that was first implemented under a separate contract with Ameritech, will be introduced at Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell as an interim solution. There will initially be 100+ users.
Telewest, a leading UK cable, telecommunications and television services provider, has also opted for the Intergraph solution. Telewest Communications will integrate five different legacy systems acquired over the years into a single solution. The contract includes the purchase of 100 FRAMME seats and WebView. Total implementation will take about two years, after which there are plans to continue developing and expanding the functionality of Telewest's system within Intergraph's GRM environment.
T-Plan, a Belgian company that engineers, constructs, and maintains networks throughout Europe has selected Intergraph's InService Suite to streamline their business processes. This win is Intergraph's first European InService customer and the first worldwide InService communications customer. Under the contract, Intergraph will deliver a dispatch system tailored specifically to the needs of telecom operators.
Hargray Communications Group (HCG), a holding company for seven telecommunication corporations located in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, selected the Intergraph solution for design of their CATV facilities. HCG's cable network division currently covers 340 plant miles and has 6500 subscribers. As part of the agreement, Intergraph will initially provide two active FRAMME seats, FieldView and the quick implementation template for both fibre and coaxial design.
Other successes for the first half of this year include Telefonia Lokalna, one of the largest private telecom operators in Poland and EDS, a network database supplier providing system integration to WIND. WIND, the third largest TLC supplier in Italy, is the first unique supplier to manage both mobile and fixed networks. WIND is partially owned by France Telecom, Deutsche Telecom and ENEL (Italian National Electricity provider).
Together with ICL Africa, Intergraph Systems Southern Africa is positioned to deliver and support Geospatial Network Resource Management solutions for the communications industry in southern Africa.
