AfriGIS sets up Vision solutions development house in SA

1 August 2000

AfriGIS has formed an alliance with Vision, a division of Autodesk, to develop Vision solution components in South Africa for implementation in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
Boasting a worldwide customer base, Vision focuses on providing infrastructure management solutions to some of the world's larger telecom companies, such as British Telecom and MCI WorldCom, as well as to major utilities companies such as Thames Water.
"Essentially, Vision is a set of software tools running on an Oracle platform. These tools are used to develop sophisticated customer-specific applications," explains AfriGIS Managing Director Magnus Rademeyer. "The software can be implemented on both Unix and Windows operating systems."
"I became convinced of AfriGIS's skill and expertise following a demonstration of the Autodesk-Oracle8i spatial link they developed," says Vision Marketing Executive Patrick Byrne.
Negotiations for a partnership got underway and in May this year two AfriGIS developers left for Canada and the UK to undergo training and implementation experience.
"AfriGIS has been actively pursuing work in the EMEA region for the last two years. Our advantages lie in the fact that we offer world-class skills and experience at extremely competitive rates. We are confident that this alliance will unlock the market potential in the EMEA region. The major telecoms and utilities players in South Africa will also be hearing more about Vision," Rademeyer concludes.
