In an attempt to ensure that local civil engineering practices are not hampered by the northern hemisphere centred co-ordinates of design solutions developed by global companies, Autograph has developed CordnIT that allows users to define their own co-ordinate system, with an origin and rotation angle independent from a solution like AutoCAD.
According to Athol Phillips, executive member of Autograph, South African companies are outgrowing local solutions that were developed in response to international sanctions.
"Today, local companies have to compete in the intensely competitive local and international markets and are demanding global platforms like AutoCAD and Autodesk Architectural Desktop that will give them an advantage over their rivals.
"With an Autograph/Autodesk bundle, users benefit from the depth in functionality and stability of Autodesk's solutions, as well as the enormous development capability of the global company. Users also enjoy the added advantages offered by Autograph's applications."
In addition to its surveying application, Autograph also has a localised productivity-enhancing toolkit specifically developed to ease the migration of users - currently using locally developed CAD software - to the AutoCAD platform. Of interest to structural engineers is its RebarIT application, which is used to calculate and detail structural reinforcing, while ElectrIT is a solution for the generation and schematic layout of drawings for electrical building services.
