Enhanced products designed for critical decision support

1 October 2002

Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions has released Version 5.0 of GeoMedia Transportation Manager and GeoMedia Transportation Analyst, two GIS products built on GeoMedia technology.
These products deliver enhanced workflow functionality and geospatial infrastructure management capabilities for professionals in departments of transportation (DOT), rail agencies, pipeline operations, and transportation support organisations. New features in GeoMedia 5.0 transportation products, such as linear referencing system (LRS) calibration and dynamic segmentation offset and rotation, are aimed at simplifying and speeding the development, maintenance, and analysis of a transportation LRS. An LRS enables an operator to define a feature or location by its linear distance from a known point on a linear network.
Expediting LRS creation, maintenance, and analysis
The GeoMedia Transportation Manager offers the ability to create, edit, validate, and, now, calibrate an LRS easily. With new calibration capabilities, operators can fill in route name and measure values to build an LRS from raw linework or add or edit measures to update and recalculate routes. For example, if construction eliminates a sharp bend in a route, the LRS calibration command would automatically adjust the measures on the route beginning at the construction zone.
Dynamic segmentation enables users to visualise the organisation's inventory of assets more clearly than by simply reviewing tabular data. Improved dynamic segmentation capabilities offer the ability to offset events manually or through attribution. This allows users to view various data side by side, thus expanding analysis capabilities. For example, data covering different time periods or showing different themes can be examined simultaneously. In addition, dynamic segmentation can now rotate point event data. Rotation angles can either be from the north or can be based on angles from the direction of the LRS network. This can be very useful for annotating networks with direction arrows or for showing signage from its proper angle.
Additional new features available with Version 5.0 include commands such as reformat geometry collection, event creator, and coordinate-only events, and improved LRS readout and key-in capabilities. GeoMedia transportation products provide open standards that enable government and commercial organisations to share geospatial data and applications, which allows these entities to maintain and leverage their past investment in legacy GIS products.
