Cape Nature Conservation (CNC) recently purchased a license of ER Mapper 6.3 from Andrew Terhorst Consulting CC, South Africa. CNC are responsible for managing and monitoring several wilderness areas within the Cape Floral Kingdom. Human habitation and activity has lead to an increase in the frequency of bush fires, which threaten the region's biodiversity.
CNC are using ER Mapper 6.3 to monitor fires throughout the Cape Floral Kingdom annually. They will ensure fire management strategies are implemented and effective. Frequent fires are destroying the number and variety of organisms found within the Cape Floral Kingdom region. This threatens the longevity of these organisms.
Andrew Terhorst, technical director at Andrew Terhorst Consulting CC, said, "Cape Nature Conservation chose ER Mapper for a variety of reasons including ease of use, efficient utilisation of disk space, wavelet image compression capability and GIS software support (plug-ins)."
